Church History

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church began in 1956 when several young families were moved by the Holy Spirit to establish a Lutheran congregation in Frankfort. Initially, 21 men signed on as voting members. Those original families included the names of Kuch, Klier, Subbert, Uthe, Koenig, Kuse, Seeman, Heyer Lauffer, Simpson, Schuldt, Cohrs, Hopkins, Wischover, Lahti, Bell, Schinkowski, Schilling, Mather and Sangmeister. Many of those families still play a very active roll in the congregation today. The Rev. Adolph E Ullrich was elected as a part-time pastor and installed on April 15, 1956. At the first regular meeting of the congregation, held on January 27, 1957, Pastor Ulrich reported that there were 26 voting members, 71 communicant members, 150 souls, 47 in Sunday School, 14 on the cradle roll 5 in each of two Confirmation classes.

On September 6, 1956, the Good Shepherd Ladies Circle was organized by eighteen ladies. The youth group was begun in 1958 with the Subberts and Sangmeisters serving as adult leaders.

Since 1956, the congregation has been served by the Rev. Adolph Ullrich (its first pastor), Rev. Erwin Baumgartner, Rev. Fred Ade, Rev. James Dishop and Rev. Kevin Hahn (the current pastor).
